Suburban Sprawl: The Worst Idea The U.S. Ever Had
If you've lived in the United States (or even visited) you are probably pretty aware of the suburban sprawl that is consistent over much of the entire mass of the country. Suburban sprawl is a signifier of the dying American dream, with vehicle dependent neighborhoods and lack of connections. Cookie cutter houses line both sides of the road with minimal vegetation, all dying to an end by cul-de-sac. Sprawl (nytimes.org) Though I have discussed sprawl in this blog before, I wanted to dive in a little bit deeper and talk about solutions as well as more of my own opinion. If you have never read Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American by Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, I would highly recommend.
